"My grandchildren and I are huge Elephant and Piggy fans and we were really looking forward to this book. I was prepared to love it, but it is problematic. The storyline is appealing to the preschool/ kindergarten set, but the art activities are, for the most part, not appropriate. There is a lot of coloring of specific items in particular colors. There are cutting activities that are beyond all but the most fine-motor precocious six year old. There is also a strong emphasis on drawing. One good way to make kids decide they are not artistic is to ask them to make accurate representational drawings before they are developmentally ready. My preschool grandchildren were very frustrated by their own efforts and wanted to watch older children or adults make the "art." In preschool and early elementary school the emphasis in creating art should be on process and not product. Unfortunately, this book places a lot of emphasis on framing and presenting the work.
The art-tivities, games and directions are more doable for 7 and 8 year olds. However, they hold little interest for kids that age.
The book is fun to read and does introduce a number of art topics. But the signature Mo Willems nods and winks to adults that make his books so appealing to a broad audience are present in spades, but wasted and distracting here. Oh, dear. Mo Willems, we really do not like this book, but we really, really like you."

  • I purchased this for my 5 year old for Christmas. He loves, Loves, LOVES it! Granted, he loved it when I read him the Elephant and Piggy books for the last year. But now, he is reading the Art-ivity books just to figure out how to do the task. I highly recommend this for 5-6 year olds. I would not introduce this to them before they start to learn to read. Why? Because this art-ivity book really encouraged my boy to read with joy!!!

BTW, my kid cries every other time I have to do his school's assigned two-syllable reading. Yet, for some reason, he reads three-syllable words with joy out of this art-ivity book.
  • My 5 year old girl love it! She has been busy working independently on this book. Tear the pages, with my help a little bit Sometimes, coloring, Putting them together and posting them on the wall. Very Happy with this purchase. Def recommend!
  • This is a beautiful, quality book with so many FUN things for kids to do. My 5 year old , very active Grandson loves Mo Willems characters, and this book is a treasure chest for kids. I'd say anyone 4-8 would find this one of their favorite past-times even if they are not a sit still kind of kid. This would be such a great gift also. It arrived in excellent condition which is not that common for books by mail. Thanks , good product, keep this item and others like it.
  • My 6 year old really likes this. I would say best for kids 6-8 years old. My only complaint is that you have to hold the book down, with a book this big, spiral bound would have been more user friendly.
  • My daughter (along with me) LOVE Elephant and Piggie books. I was debating on ordering this book for awhile though, wondering if it would be worth it for my daughter. She is almost 8 and the activities are perfect for her age. They would be for younger ages too with some help from a grown up. Although we still have not done any crafts from the book yet, my daughter and I have read it several times. The commentary from Elephant and Piggie is as great as always throughout the book. If you are an Elephant and Piggie fan and your child likes to do crafts/activities, then this is the book to buy.
  • My 7 year old son was obsessed he sat for hours a few days in a row completing the book! The book is filled with engaging activities with pull out pages to creat fun puzzle and road maps that creat a fun adventure for piggie and Gerald. The story is full in the blank with creative ideas for your little one to create a funny story with their favorite characters. I have this one and the other piggie and Gerald activity book. I wish there were more because it was also great for road trips keeping my son quite and occupied for long trips!
  • 5 year old girl loved it and her older sisters helped complete it while on downtime during a ski vacation. The little one also had completed the Pigion Activity Book during many happy hours. These are the best!
