Dive Right in The Sharks Won't Bite The Entrepreneurial Woman Guide to Success Jane Wesman 9780137372300 Books Reviews

  • Highly recommend Jane Wesman’s classic, Dive Right in – the Sharks Won’t Bite. It’s a clear-sighted, street-smart, step by step blueprint to entrepreneurial success. The book is written especially for women and the particular issues women face in starting & running a business (and, sadly, still do face). While some of the tools and channels to market have changed since the book’s publication, the advice is 100% applicable to today’s digital world. And, my male colleagues have given this book high-fives for sound universal advice too. Dive into this timeless book!
  • I run a small business, and I refer to Jane Wesman's book at least once a week for advice on how to handle everything from how to pitch an idea to the best way to hire an assistant. I cannot emphasize enough how practical this advice is-and how helpful Ms Wesman is in conveying a message of optimism mixed with straight talk on making your way to success as a female entrepreneur. A++.
  • “It takes a community of resources to build the skills, confidence and resilience to be an entrepreneur and run your own business. Jane Wesman focuses on every aspect of what that means and provides practical guidance on achievable goals. Her book is my “go-to” as a checks-and-balance on keeping my own business priorities in order, my direction on the right path, and my energy focused. The book demystifies and encourages, and I would advise anyone starting, or already running, her own business to have a copy on hand.”
  • Wesman's "Dive Right In The Sharks Won't Bite" is as relevant today as it was at it's original printing in 1995. While digital marketing and social media may have changed the playing field for marketing and PR, businesses are still built on relationships and the basic tenets of cash flow, planning, networking, and hiring and motivating employees. Foundational advice for any woman new to entrepreneurship.
  • As a woman entrepreneur, I like Jane's message. This book has helped me navigate my business world and nearly all of it has revealed itself in the manner Jane describes. This author is a successful entrepreneur so she knows what she is doing. I recommend it.
  • Dive Right In remains a timeless primer of essential, foundational competencies to run a successful business, whether you are an entrepreneur or in a leadership role for another organization. I look forward to the same clarity of purpose in the updated edition addressing digital marketing and PR as well as Jane's thought leadership on succeeding in an increasingly competitive workplace.
  • A friend of mine gave me this book, and I was disappointed. First, I read other business books before this one and felt that they were better and gave me real advice. Second, I showed this to my boyfriend, who had a good point. Why is this a "women's guide" to success. If we are to succeed as women we don't need special treatment. These ideas are about 20 years old. Come on Jane! It's the 21st century already. Can't there be a book for both men and women?
Third, I already knew how to get a bank loan and how to make business cards. It's a very condescending book.
Read the "Seven Habits" by Stephen McCovey or "The Personal Touch" by Terrie Williams for better advice.
  • When I was just starting out, I read this book and a number of other business books. This one provided me with the best organizational tool I have ever found anywhere. It is simple and brilliant. Get a ordinary tablet composition book and keep your "to do" list on the right page and important phone numbers and conversations on the left. As Ms. Wesman says, stay disciplined and keep doing it. What is great about it is that I can look back and find out a piece of information from 6 months ago. Ms. Wesman's description helped me organize my hectic days and now my staff is imitating me and doing the same. If you dive into this book, you will find other brilliant nuggets to help you in your business.
