Celtic Lore Spellcraft of the Dark Goddess Invoking the Morrigan Stephanie Woodfield 9780738727677 Books Reviews
- Regardless of the naysayers on here, I found this book to be refreshing. It not only addresses the many different aspects of the Phantom Queen, it also gave amazing path workings for everyone of them and then some. I enjoyed the back story of each aspect and the information that the author allows the reader to decide for themselves as to whether or not include in to the Great Queen's arsenal of archetypes. I love this book. Stephanie is not afraid to address all nooks and crannies of this ancient goddess and although it is not scholarly, I would rank it up there with them best of them. Llewellyn strikes out every once in a while, and then again, just as often, they hit bases-loaded homeruns.. This was one of them!! I really enjoyed that Stephanie was talking to me, and not at me as most authors tend to do. It shows that she does, indeed, have a true gift when it comes to expressing her self through word. I felt as if she was in the room with me and I was sitting at her feet, listening to her story and wisdom. Well worth the money!
Just a word to the wise, as I took a few others suggestions on here and it turned out to be a folly. I have heard many, many, people suggest Steve Blamires "Magic of the Celtic Otherworld" also known as "Glamoury Magic of the Celtic Green World", also by Llewellyn, as a reading companion to this book. If you want an expensive door stop full of "preachy" and "too scary to contact" trash, then go for it. It seems as though readers of that book are only looking for the brighter side of life, which is all fine and dandy, but not to be used as a reference with this book due to the authors narrow mind and less that scholarly words/research. (See my review on that book for more details if you wish). - This is a fantastic book for learning about Morrigan. I bought it via an interest in Celtic folklore, and to supplement some research I was doing. I was not interested in the "spellcraft" aspect, so I pretty much ignored those portions. The book itself has some really amazing material, and it helped me round out an idea of the lore surrounding Morrigan, and the different perspectives on her. I highly recommend this book.
- Seriously, this book is amazing!!!! I love the guided meditations, the spell work, the suggestions on how to honor the Goddess in all her glory!!! I love that the Author; Stephanie Woodfield really gives you great information without putting to much of her personal opinions on it. Sometimes, when working with the Goddess Morrigan, you get a lot of "who are you to call upon the Goddess" sort of things but Stephanie gets you excited to delve into the Darkness! Brilliant Book!
- Each chapter starts with a pathworking exercise to prepare you, then some history and mythology. After that there are excersises and spells. She also includes oils and incenses you can make for each aspect of the goddess.
- This is really a wonderful book! I haven't finished it yet because I have so much going on in my life, but I'm really really enjoying it. It's not exactly the kind of book that you're going to read like a novel. That being said, it is a New Age book explaining some very important things in the beginning of it. So it can seem like that in the start. I really love that about it. From here it goes on do you have Spell's, ideas and more. I will add more to this once I am at a point where I've read more. So far it's been very helpful for me and I think it says a lot about the Morgan.
- The best book on the Morrigan i have. Also, it was my first book, when i was just starting my path with the Godess, many many years ago. I find it a bit repetitive at times, as if the book could have been a bit shorter so as to make it more to the point. But, the info is grate, the chapters are well themed and the love the author has for the Godess is crystal clear in every page. I do prefer to have that feeling than to have an academic exactitud over the subject. Be it so, the balance between objective research and personal experience or personal thought is harmonic. I still love it, read it a few times over the years, still as inspiring as the firs reading.
- More of a collection of legends than a witchy how-to guide. Good stories though.
- If The Morrigan has called you, this is THE book for you! It's perfection personified! Explores and honors every aspect of The Morrigan.
